How do I hang my Stained-Glass piece?
So, you’ve bought a gorgeous stained-glass masterpiece, and now it’s time to hang it up like the royalty it is. All pieces that are meant to be hung are made with hoops soldered on (either one or two depending on size and weight).
🧰 What You’ll Need:
—Tape measure and pencil
—Level
—Hooks or Nails- used as anchor in a wall, window frame or any solid material from which you want to hang your stained glass.
—Drill or Hammer- Drill is used when hooks are used and likewise the hammer is used for the…..you guessed it……. nails.
1. Pick the Perfect Spot
Find a window or space that deserves the honor of holding your art. Depending on the size and types of glass this can be anywhere. Often times this is a window that gets the most sun throughout the year. It could also be an area you wish to display your purchase to visitors. Or even your corner on the couch where you like to curl up. The IMPORTANT thing is that you are using a surface that is solid and can support the weight of your piece i.e. wooden window frame or wall stud.
2. Install Hooks/Nails
— In the case of a stained-glass piece requiring only ONE ANCHOR, simply use your eye to pick your spot. For hooks, drill appropriate sized hole for the screw in your hook, then screw it in and hang up your piece. If a nail is your preference just hammer that sucker in your chosen location.
— If your artwork has TWO ANCHORS:
———Determine where you want the center of the top edge of your stained-glass panel to be and make a mark on the hanging surface. (If hanging in a window just make a mark in center of top windowsill)
———Measure the distance from one anchor to the other.
———Make two more marks equidistant from your center mark
———Use your level to make sure the two outer marks are level with one another
———For hooks, drill appropriate sized hole for the screw in your hook in both of the outer marks, screw in hook. For nails, choose a thicker nail and hammer them in the outer marks at a slightly downward angel so that the nail head is pointing slightly up. This will help prevent the weight or your piece pulling it down and sliding off.
3. Hang the Glory
——Simply use the hooks provided with your purchase to hang on the wall hook or nail you have secured in a solid material. If the chain is too long use two pairs of pliers to remove a few links on both sides of the piece. If it is too short you can purchase similar chain at your local hardware store.
How is the price determined for our work?
Prices for stained glass pieces either listed on our website or for a commission piece for a customer are determined through a number of factors. Materials, complexity of design, manufacturing time.
—Materials- This includes glass, solder, framing, chain and all other things used to create a finished product. Glass adds considerable cost especially when it is more expensive to keep in stock or is no longer in production making supplies very limited.
—Complexity of design- While the overall dimensions of any two pieces of art may be identical, often times the number of individual pieces of glass and shapes and lines within each are not. The more complex the design the more time it takes to create the artwork up to our standards.
—Manufacturing time- When creating a design that is often done in bulk (5 or more) we can have them all on our tables simultaneously and streamline the manufacturing process. This cuts down on production time and cost. When doing a piece that is a one of a kind or commission request the production time is increased.
